Filter Unit business supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals

Filter Units are known as sustainable and environmental friendly solution. The nature of the product, as it is made from recycled polyester, supports the environment in many ways and we have summarized those points in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals for expressing the benefits of the product in a globally understandable format.

The sustainable development goals that were identified in line with the Filter Unit as a product are:

  • Goal 6: Ensure access to water and sanitation for all
  • Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
  • Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and production
  • Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
  • Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources
  • Goal 17: Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development

Therefore the Goals are mentioned as follows and explained by some related key points defining those more in detail including the anticipated date by when the goals are meant to be reached:

Goal 6:

The Filter Units contribute to Goal 6 with the simple creation of water reservoirs or temporary dams, to secure the access and paths for water flows and sites regarding the distribution of water. Filter Units were tested for environmental safety and hence do not contribute with its material to contamination of water or environment.

Goal 9:

Filter Units help to protect areas from natural disasters, especially with track records in flood protection and quick support for disaster-hit areas. Furthermore, there were inquiries for projects to support the development of harbor areas in African countries to enhance the infrastructure and safe transportation and installation of goods.

Goal 12:

Filter Units can be used multiple times in different locations, and therefore the need for more bags is sometimes unnecessary and reduces the amounts of resources and materials needed.

Goal 13:

In the event of a disaster hitting a specific area, Filter Units can be installed quickly as a counter measure or protection for damaged roads or river beds with proven track records or create temporary roads within a short time. Basically any existing materials (rocks, gravel, etc.) that are available on site can be used to fill and use the Filter Units temporarily.

Goal 14:

Within all current areas in marine sites where Filter Units are used, the benefits especially for the environmental safety have been proven. The safe installation and use as well as the waste-free decommissioning help in keeping a sustainable marine life. During the use of Filter Units in oceans, marine life can develop and grow inside the Filter Units and therefore support local ecosystems.

Goal 17:

The Filter Unit business helps to grow businesses sustainably and enable labor opportunities worldwide, while keeping a high effort on HSE standards with a transition towards sustainable practices.

There is a possibility of promoting Filter Units amongst 3rd world countries with special terms, if the economic need is proven and the contribution from Sumitomo Corporations side helps to support local communities with the use of Filter Units.
